BATTLE CREEK -- For the first time in program history, the Kingsley Stags have captured a volleyball state title, and in the process denied Kalamazoo Christian a chance to win its second title in three years.
The Stags beat the Comets 22-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-12 on Saturday at Kellogg Arena.
After falling short in the regional last year, and not getting out of districts the two season before that, after running into Traverse City St. Francis and Monroe St. Mary just to get to the final, the Stags came out on top.
“We said we wanted to make history and we were able to put that out there today,” Kingsley setter Sarah Wooer said. “It was a big deal for us.”
Kingsley had dropped the first set in the semifinal against Monroe St. Mary, and came away from the first two sets of the quarterfinal
