GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Volunteers with Project Hunger helped pack over 1,000 boxes of food for the holiday season in Grand Island. Volunteers gathered Friday night to prepare the food and boxes.
As the sun was rising Saturday morning, hundreds of volunteers started an assembly line to fill boxes at the Cattle Barn at Fonner Park. Families, friends and volunteers joined together to help fill boxes with holiday meals for families with food insecurity.
Project Hunger hosted their annual Thanksgiving food drive where they filled 1,400 boxes in less than one hour to give out to 86 different agencies. Those agencies include Salvation Army, schools and churches that will collect the boxes before handing them out to families in need at those organizations.
