CADILLAC, MI – It was only fitting that after nearly three quarters of dominating play, the Kingsley defense was the first unit to put points on the scoreboard.
Senior linebacker Colton Goethals stepped in front of a Kent City pass attempt on fourth-and-six near midfield and returned the interception 46 yards for a score to break a scoreless tie with 2:59 left in the third quarter.
Kingsley added a 5-yard touchdown run by junior Nolan Hodges with six minutes left to play, following a fumble by Kent City. Senior Gavin Lewis hauled in a 2-point conversion from senior quarterback Tucker Dreves on the next play from scrimmage to put the finishing touches on a 14-0 win over Kent City in the Division 6 state semifinals on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cadillac.
