A 33-year-old dirt bike rider was seriously injured Friday afternoon after falling off a cliff about 6 miles east of Wilkeson, according to the Pierce County sheriff’s office.
Rescue crews received the 911 call around 12:41 p.m. saying a man fell 100 to 200 feet and suffered a head injury along a Forest Service road known as Quinnon Extension Road East, sheriff’s spokesperson Carly Cappetto said in an email.
The sheriff’s search and rescue team, alongside East Pierce and Buckley Fire, brought the man to safety through a high-angle rope rescue.
“We learned that the patient was part of a group of dirt bikers and slipped and fell off a cliff while trying to take a photograph,” Cappetto said.
The man was airlifted to Tacoma General Hospital.
