OTTAWA - Kayle Osborne earned a 28-save shutout, Taylor Girard had a hat trick and the New York Sirens opened their season with a 4-0 win over the Ottawa Charge on Saturday in Professional Women's Hockey League action.
Osborne took the No. 1 role after longtime starter Corinne Schroeder signed with the Seattle Torrent, one of two expansion teams to join the PWHL this season.
Saturday’s shutout was the second of Osborne’s PWHL career, the first also coming against Ottawa in a 3-0 win last season.
Maja Nylen Persson, with an empty-netter, also scored for New York (1-0-0-0). All four goals were scored in the final 12:11 of the contest.
Gwyneth Philips stopped 38 shots for Ottawa (0-0-0-1).
The Sirens broke the silence with just over 12 minutes to play, finally forcing a goal past Philips
