MONTREAL—There was a Santa Claus parade just a couple of blocks from the Bell Centre on Saturday, and that seemed to put the Maple Leafs in a gift-giving mood.
They gave the puck away in new and creative ways in a 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens had been struggling about as much as the Leafs have been in recent weeks: both lacking confidence, dealing with numerous injuries and letting other teams have their way. The idea for the Leafs has been to make life hard on the opposition. The only player they made life hard on was their own goalie, Joseph Woll, who did what he could in staring down a Montreal onslaught but was pulled midway through the second period with Montreal up 4-0.
