Wei Yang of China and Javokhir Sindarov of Uzbekistan opted for risk-free draws against their respective opponents in the second game of the semifinals at the FIDE World Cup on Saturday. Wei Yi, playing with the white pieces, attempted to challenge the formidable Andrey Esipenko of Russia, but the impregnable Petroff defense ultimately dictated the outcome in the game played under classical time control.

From the Chinese perspective, Wei Yi tried hard to maintain a normal position but found it impossible to break through.
