ROYAL CITY — For the third consecutive season, Seton Catholic’s football season has ended with a loss to Royal.
The Cougars lost 48-10 Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A state playoffs. Royal defeated Seton in the 2024 state championship game and the 2023 semifinals, part of a remarkable run in which the Knights have captured the past five state titles (the 2020 competition was cancelled).
“I feel like our team played their hearts out,” Seton coach Dan Chase said. “Royal’s a good team – well-coached and they play hard.”
Royal opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Grant Wardenaar to Shea Stevenson. Moments later, Stevenson turned an interception into a 30-yard touchdown return, and the Knights were on their way to a 34-7 halftim
