PETERSBURG — The Granby High boys volleyball season did not end as the Comets wanted, but still there was much to celebrate Saturday at Virginia State University.
Granby, playing in the program’s — and a Norfolk school’s — first state title game, was swept by defending champ Glen Allen 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 in the Class 5 final.
“I don’t think anybody expected us to be this good,” said senior setter Will Findlay.
Although Granby finished with an identical 25-3 record in 2024, the expectations for this year’s team were somewhat lessened after the graduation of star AJ Angeles and a host of other seniors.
“We lost about one-third of our team after last year,” Findlay said. “We had to find a new setter (to replace Angeles).”
Other players stepped up. Gabe Sol returned to his outside hitter
