A Scottish dad tragically passed away just hours before his family were due to celebrate an early Christmas with him.

Grant Hardie, from Motherwell, was in palliative care following a diagnosis of bowel cancer earlier this year.

His devastated wife Susan and 10 year old daughter Autumn had arranged to celebrate Christmas a month early at his hospice bedside on Sunday. However, the 40 year old sadly died on Saturday night.

The heartbreaking news came just hours after the Daily Record reported that generous well-wishers had brought Santa and a sack full of presents to Autumn's door as her dad's condition rapidly worsened.

Susan, 43, told the Record: "Autumn was so brave and has been my absolute rock." Grant was and is my soulmate and life will never be the same.
