Our kitchen sinks handle plenty of tasks for us. We rely on them for washing dishes when there's no dishwasher available, they can soak garments requiring bleaching before a proper wash, and we use them to rinse foods such as rice, fruit, and vegetables prior to consumption.
This means far more than just water travels down our kitchen drains. Remnants of cleaning solutions and food particles inevitably slip through when we empty the water, regardless of our efforts to prevent rice grains and potato dirt from entering our plumbing network. However, most of us understand there's one substance that must never be tipped down the drain: grease.
