There was utter chaos at India Gate on Sunday evening as protesters attacked police personnel with pepper spray after fresh demonstrations were held at the site against Delhi's toxic air quality. According to police, three to four personnel were injured by the spray and are undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohiya Hospital.
The protesters had gathered near India Gate demanding action on the city’s "very poor" air quality, but were eventually removed by police.
A senior officer said the group moved into the C-Hexagon area and tried to get past barricades meant to manage movement.
Officers attempted to explain that ambulances and medical staff were stuck and needed emergency access, but the protesters were unvoved and got agitated.
