Morgan Rogers has called his stunning free-kick “the Emi Buendia” after replicating his teammate’s goal against Bournemouth during Aston Villa’s 2-1 comeback at Leeds United.
Buendia started the match at Elland Road but was substituted at half-time. When Ross Barkley won a free-kick just outside the box with 15 minutes remaining, Rogers seized the opportunity.
The England star curled the ball over the wall and under the bar, leaving Lucas Perri helpless in the Leeds goal.
Earlier in the half, Rogers had also equalised, deftly flicking Donyell Malen’s cross from the right.
“It’s a difficult place to come. They’re really strong at home. They played really well, with a high intensity. We had to dig in, we had to dig deep,” Rogers said on BBC Match of the Day.
