SEATTLE — Volunteers with Seattle Mountain Rescue (SMR) are gearing up for the winter season, but are also asking outdoors enthusiasts to do the same.
Packing gear changes with each season, and the approach for rescues also changes.
First and foremost, the concern for hypothermia is elevated.
"Winter rescues become much more complicated," said Brent Bishop, of SMR. "The clock is ticking. We gotta get to people and get them fast."
Bishop stopped by the KING 5 Studios with fellow SMR member Raquel Lackey to talk about winter safety.
They were accompanied by Ruffles , a four-year-old Labrador retriever, a member of the SMR Resiliency Team.
"No matter how bad your day is - it's really OK to smile at a dog," Lackey said.
Ruffles is on scene or at a base camp location during rescue m
