KENTUCKY —

A major blow to Kentucky charities, as the state has ordered hundreds of gaming machines to be immediately shut down following a large-scale theft scheme.

This order came after the Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Commission became aware that a form of theft known as “fishing” had been taking place.

“Fishing” is a form of theft in which money is put into a machine and is then pulled out using fishing line to trick the game into thinking more money had been put into the machine.

Once this is done, thieves can cash out large amounts of money without having played the game, which ultimately keeps funds from being used for their intended charitable purpose.

KHRG says it takes a lot of time, in some cases hours, and has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of dollars.
