NAGPUR: Tears of joy rolled down the cheeks of 25-year-old Sammi, once known in the tottering Maoist headquarters of Abujmarh as Comrade Bandi, as she held her newborn son for the first time in Gadchiroli District Women's Hospital this week. A trained area committee member and part of the guerrilla medical team, Sammi is the wife of a former PLGA commander and bodyguard of surrendered Maoist ideologue Bhupathi. The couple — Sammi and Arjun — walked out of the jungles and surrendered before Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on January 1.
