CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The Carteret County Board of Elections will meet once again to discuss the election protest filed in the Morehead City mayoral race.
Current Mayor Jerry Jones filed an election protest during the county’s canvass meeting on November 7th.
The board unanimously voted to move forward with an evidentiary hearing during a preliminary meeting last week.
Jones told WITN that his decision to file an election protest is not related to the election outcome or the recount results.
Candidate Les Stiles maintained his one-vote lead over Jones, 762 votes to 761 votes, after a recount.
Jones says he filed the protest because residents told him they were not able to vote and were not offered a provisional ballot.
Today’s meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at the Cartere
