Week 12 continued the pattern of surprises across the NFL, with two of the teams in the Top 5 of our most recent Power Rankings losing on Sunday. After one more week of action has continued to clear up who belongs where in the NFL hierarchy, let's take a look at our updated NFL Power Rankings entering Week 13.
1. New England Patriots: Well, hello, old friend. It's early to say that the dynasty of the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era is back, but with Sunday's 26-20 win over the Bengals, New England is the first team in the league to 10 wins this season. Drake Maye leads the NFL in passing yards (3,130) and is fourth in passing touchdowns (21), and the Patriots look to be right back where they were in the glory days.
2. Los Angeles Rams: The Rams looked like a powerhouse as they absolutely walloped the Buccaneers 34-7 on Sunday night, and are now on a six-game win streak after starting the season 3-2. They have a narrow lead over the Seahawks in the NFC West, and Matt Stafford looks to be aging like fine wine as he leads the NFL with 30 passing touchdowns. Like the Patriots, they boast Top 10 units in the NFL on both sides of the ball.
3. Denver Broncos: The Broncos benefit from an off week here and move up two spots, as chaos continued to reign supreme around the NFL with two of the top five teams in last week's rankings suffering losses. Denver is 9-2 this season, and holds a steady lead in the AFC West. They will also have a good chance to continue racking up momentum and wins this weekend as they face the Commanders, who are just 3-8 on the year.
4. Philadelphia Eagles: While the Eagles don't disappear from the Top 5 this week by virtue of being the top-ranked franchise last week, they are losing some ground after a 24-21 loss to the Cowboys. Philadelphia is still 8-3 overall and commands a strong lead in the otherwise dismal NFC East, but next week's battle with the 8-3 Chicago Bears will be a real measuring stick game in sorting out who really is among the top NFC teams.
5. Detroit Lions: The Lions bounce back into the top tier of the rankings this week after following up a tight loss to the Eagles with a too-close-for-comfort win over the Giants. But that's how life goes sometimes, and at the end of the day, putting another 'W' in the win column means good things for the Lions. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns, proving again he's among the most dangerous skill players in the NFL, and you should not count the Lions out as a top team in the NFC.
