NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The New Bedford Police Department said a man with a “lengthy criminal history” was arrested on Nov. 23 after an alleged assault with a firearm.

35-year-old Dominic Rezendes faces multiple charges, including carrying a loaded firearm, breaking and entering, and kidnapping.

New Bedford police said officers were attempting to take Rezendes into custody after an alleged assault when police found him leaving his apartment.

As officers attempted to arrest the defendant, police said he ran inside a nearby home and out the back door to “escape.”

Officers were able to catch Rezendes on the porch without further incident.

Later on, police discovered that Rezendes had allegedly discarded a loaded handgun, which he did not have a license for.
