GREENSBORO, N.C. — Duke Energy , the utility serving most of the Triad, has filed a proposal that could raise customer power bills beginning in 2027. The request is the first step in a lengthy regulatory process, and nothing changes for customers right now.

The company’s filing with the North Carolina Utilities Commission outlines a two-year rate increase totaling about 15% . For most households in the Triad, the proposal would increase monthly bills in two phases: roughly 10% to 11% in 2027 , followed by another 3% to 4% in 2028 .
