CARBONDALE — Past the football and shopping that have imprinted themselves onto modern Thanksgiving, the spirit of the holiday boils down to communities coming together to share a feast.

Preparations are underway for several such meals in our region. One of the largest is at the Newman Catholic Student Center in Carbondale, which served around 1,300 meals last year.
