EUGENE — Cal is amid a coaching search and Oregon defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi has Dan Lanning’s endorsement to return to Berkeley.
Lupoi, who is in his fourths season at UO, is calling a defense that ranks third nationally in total defense, eighth in scoring, third in pass defense and 15th in run defense entering the final week of the regular season.
A Cal alum from the East Bay, Lupoi is widely mentioned among the leading candidates for the job, which opened with the firing of Justin Wilcox on Sunday. Lupoi is earning $2 million this season at UO and his buyout to leave is waived if he becomes an FBS or NFL head coach or NFL defensive coordinator with full play-calling responsibilities.
