ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis could see its first shot of winter weather this weekend, as MoDOT, IDOT and private plow companies prepare for slick roadways.

American Snow and Ice in Maryland Heights has spent the last several years building upon its long-standing liquid brine program, as companies trend away from using traditional rock salt.

“Unfortunately, if this product is applied over and over on a heavy winter, we do see issues with landscaping being damaged, we see issues with the door frames rusting out,” said Christopher Richard with American Snow and Ice.

Richard said in addition to the wear and tear done to buildings, doorways and the pavement, the long-term impacts of rock salt on the environment are largely negative.
