COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - For several years, the number of vacant teaching jobs in South Carolina public schools had kept rising and rising to unprecedented levels .
But a new report reveals good news: For the second year in a row, more vacancies are getting filled, and the overall number is dropping.
The 2025 Educator Supply and Demand Report , released Tuesday by the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement, or CERRA, shows there were more than 400 fewer open teaching jobs in South Carolina at the start of this school year versus last year.
“It gives a great foundation for our students to know who they’re going to be working for the entire year, who’s going to be looking out for their best interests,” Dena Crews with the South Carolina Education Association said. “
