An advisory committee has backed a state plan to get public comment on the future of the governor’s mansion.
The support surfaced Nov. 20 during a meeting of the Capitol Complex Advisory Council following some blistering testimony on the 66-year-old dwelling at 2 Carson St.
“The mansion is in sad condition,” said Misty Ann Giles, director of the Department of Administration. The DOA includes the General Services Division, which oversees the Capitol Complex.
The panel, which advises the DOA on some issues, was presented with alternatives for the residence of Montana’s top executive located two blocks from the state Capitol. These choices included finding a new nonresidential use for it such as meeting space, making a park out of it or selling the property.
