CLARK COUNTY, Ind. —
Project Lifesaver , a national nonprofit that uses radio-transmitting bracelets to help find people who may wander because of Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, or other cognitive conditions, is officially back in Clark County.
The program uses small bracelets equipped with radio transmitters. If a person enrolled in the program goes missing, first responders can activate specialized receivers that pick up the signal and lead them directly to the individual.
“It’s a strong signal, and we just start following it,” said Deputy Sheriff Wayne Crumpton with Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Crumpton says the tracking range is roughly one mile on the ground and up to seven miles if crews are in a helicopter.
