Pittsburgh Public Schools directors are not moving forward with a plan to close schools.

School directors on Tuesday voted against a school closure plan that would have shuttered nine school buildings, closed several others and opened them as new schools and changed grade structures at 10 others. The motion failed in a 6-3 vote. Directors Gene Walker, Yael Silk, Devon Taliaferro, Sala Udin, Emma Yourd and Jamie Piotrowski voted against school closures. Sylvia Wilson, Tracey Reed and Dwayne Barker voted for the plan.

Under the plan, nine schools would have shuttered, 12 others would have closed with many reopening as new schools, and grade structures would have been reconfigured at 10 to follow a K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 model. Two new schools would have opened — Northview PreK-5 and Sci-Tech 6
