A new supermarket could soon be taking over a former Darlington Co-op shop.
The building - located at 206 North Road on its corner with Askrigg Street - was sold in April just months after hitting the market with a £400,000 price tag.
The unit has long been vacant; but now, signs for a new supermarket have been put up in the window alongside text teasing it is "coming soon".
It is not known when the sign was first placed there and the identity of the building's new owner also remains unknown at this time.
The site was built in the early 1930's by the Darlington Co-operative Society and previously operated as A1 Motor Stores for a number of years.
Residents recalled how the structure was also once home to a grocery, bakers, fishmongers, fruit shop, and butchers.
