A school has announced plans to close for the rest of the week following an outbreak of a 'flu-like illness.'

Congleton High School in Cheshire will remain closed to undergo a deep clean.

It comes following high levels of student absences this week, a letter to parents stated.

The letter continued: "There have been a number of cases of flu-like illness in the school so far this week leading to high levels of sickness absence.

"As we are currently unable to open, we have implemented a plan for the effective continuation of learning.

"Work will be set in accordance with the usual timetable, where staff are well enough to do so."
