A grandfather who was left unable to walk following a devastating fall in Croatia will embark on a gruelling 30-hour journey home this week for continued treatment in the UK.
Brian Ackroyd has been hospitalised in Dubrovnik for a month after sustaining severe injuries including a fractured skull and a broken C2 vertebrae. The father-of-three, who hails from Teesville, also endured nerve damage and three brain bleeds after tumbling in Cavtat on his holiday's opening morning.
Following several days in intensive care, the 65 year old is currently receiving treatment on a neurology ward at Dubrovnik General. His relatives had launched an urgent appeal for financial assistance to fund a medical flight home after an insurance blunder rendered his claim invalid, reports
