A woman who cannot afford to switch on her heating claims mates have begun declining invitations to her home due to the freezing conditions.

Julie Prince brings in £27,000 annually in her role as a civil servant.

However, with her mortgage and household expenses consuming 80 per cent of her monthly wage, the 52 year old maintains she has scarcely enough remaining to survive.

She can only manage a grocery shop once every five weeks and cranking up the heating remains absolutely off-limits.
