CLEVELAND — Cleveland police are investigating after an officer opened fire during an incident early Wednesday morning in the 1900 block of West 25th Street.
The Cleveland Division of Police said it was around 5:17 a.m. when officers responded to the scene “for a report of an individual actively attempting to break into a store.”
Upon their arrival, police say officers found a male suspect near the front entrance of the store who appeared to be attempting to gain entry using a long metal object.
“Officers immediately ordered the male to stop,” according to a press release from Cleveland police. “The male then reached into a nearby bag and retrieved a pickaxe. He refused to comply with officers’ commands and advanced toward them.”
