CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A large police presence was reported early Wednesday morning outside the Budget Lodge along Western Branch Boulevard.

Officers were on scene around 1 a.m., and a 13News Now crew observed multiple units in the hotel parking lot.

Chesapeake police now confirm that on Tuesday, around 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a hotel in the 3200 block of Western Branch Boulevard for a reported shooting inside a room. When they arrived, they learned an adult male had been shot at the location several hours earlier.

According to investigators, bystanders transported the victim to a hospital in Portsmouth, where the Portsmouth Police Department began an investigation. The victim later died from his injuries.
