Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted Tuesday afternoon, sending lava fountains up to 400–500 feet into the air from multiple vents inside the Halemaʻumaʻu crater, according to the US Geological Survey. The eruption lasted about nine hours before ending just before midnight.
