Another racist federal bill has been eliminated, although most of us would not have known it existed in the first place.
Former prime minister Stephen Harper’s 2009 government’s denial of citizenship to children born outside of Canada, born to Canadian citizens who themselves were born outside this country, was racist through and through.
It resulted in a tranche of “lost Canadians,” whose only fault was their parentage.

In 2023, an Ontario Superior Court ruled the bill unconstitutional — this month, it was repealed.
That it existed for so many years is a blight on our “welcoming” country and a stain on the selfish souls of Canadians who believed it was right and appropriate.
