A SCOTLAND Office minister has defended Labour’s migration reforms which leave “children born in Scotland at risk of deportation”.

Kirsty McNeill was challenged on the UK Government ’s reforms to the immigration and asylum system, which were branded “heinous” by SNP deputy Westminster leader Pete Wishart in the Commons on Wednesday.

Asked about the impact of the policies on Scotland, McNeill said they were the “most sweeping asylum reforms in modern times commensurate to the scale of the issues before us”.

The minister added: “I am proud that our country has always been fair, tolerant and compassionate and this Government will always defend those values.”
