Under-fire Chancellor Rachel Reeves has delivered her Autumn Budget in the Commons on Wednesday. The Chancellor’s landmark address was thrown into chaos by the Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) leaking the Budget prematurely.
Ms Reeves opened by saying it was “deeply disappointing” and a “serious error on their part”, meaning the OBR. “We are rebuilding our economy,” she said. Ms Reeves, the Labour Party Cabinet member, also slammed opponents who think the only good thing the state can do is “get out of the way”.
“Working people demanded and deserved change,” she said. “I said there would be no return to austerity and I meant it … I said I would cut the cost of living and I meant it … I said I would cut debt and borrowing and I meant it.”
