People who fought to save their local library are celebrating its reopening after a £1.5m revamp.
The refurbishment has resulted in a ‘fully modernised’ service in Tyldesley, including a children’s section, computers and hot-desk facilities for study and work.
Upstairs, there are two community rooms, both fully licensed for wedding ceremonies – a first for the town.
The reopening follows a long-running campaign to keep the library open. Tyldesley and Mosley Common councillor Jess Eastoe said that public pressure played a key role in securing the investment, provided as match-funding through the Heritage Action Zone programme.
A campaign to save the building was led by residents. The library is now open from 9am to 2pm, daily.
