A 20-year-old man was sentenced to up to seven years in New Jersey State Prison for gunfire this past summer in Phillipsburg .
New Jersey Superior Court Judge H. Matthew Curry handed down the sentence Friday to Andrew R. Weaver, of Phillipsburg, according to a news release from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Weaver must serve 85% of the sentence, or nearly six years, prior to becoming eligible for parole, Acting Prosecutor Jessica L. Cardone’s office announced in the release Tuesday.
Phillipsburg’s ShotSpotter system alerted town police to the gunfire Aug. 3 in the 400 block of Anderson Street. ShotSpotter is described as proprietary technology able to detect gunfire over many square miles to an accuracy of within a few feet.
