A neighborhood in Ventura is being told to avoid their tap water Wednesday morning after traces of gasoline were detected in the water.

This means residents cannot use the water for drinking, brushing their teeth, shower or make coffee.

The emergency alert comes as many people are preparing to host family or getting ready to cook Thanksgiving dinner.

The main area of concern is the Pierpont neighborhood, from San Pedro Street on the north side and south to Peninsula Street and every street in between.

However, not everyone in the area is getting the alerts about this and the city has asked anyone who does receive the alerts to make sure they share it to anyone affected.
