The miserable rainy weather in Chatham on Tuesday matched what continues to be a miserable, persistent problem in our municipality, province, country as well as globally: the prevalence of violence against women and girls.
For the 12th year, the Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent held a rally on the Third Street Bridge to mark the international day for the elimination of violence against women.
Zonta club president Celina Shoji said it always seems windy or cold when they hold their annual Say No on the Bridge campaign.
“But, for us to do a walk to raise awareness, we can suffer through this when women around the world are suffering,” she said.
“We are very passionate about this,” said Zonta club member Wanda Bell.
