Trenton — A ping from a cellphone tower Wednesday morning led Trenton police to a 37-year-old armed murder suspect who was fatally shot during an interaction with officers, police officials said.

The incident happened at about 3:04 a.m., according to a press release.

At about 2:45 a.m., a dispatch was sent to area police departments that a 2022 Gray Ford Edge, the suspected getaway vehicle in an earlier shooting in Inkster, was pinging in Trenton near 3700 Van Horn, the statement said.

"Officers made contact with an armed subject who was ultimately shot and killed," police wrote. "No officers were killed."

Michigan State Police said Wednesday on X that its Second District Special Investigation Section is probing the shooting following the Trenton Police Department's request.
