NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport School Committee will hold a special meeting Thursday afternoon in response to an alleged assault of a student with severe impairments that led to the arrests of four Rogers High School students.
The potential launch of an independent investigation into the alleged incident will be discussed by the committee at 2:30 p.m. at Pell Elementary School.
The initial arrest in the case came Friday when a 16-year-old male Rogers student was charged with assault of a person with severe impairments.
A second 16-year-old male student was arrested Saturday in the incident, followed by two more arrests Monday .
The latest arrests were of male students ages 14 and 17, according to Newport police.
