A Navy sailor drowned after he rescued his son as he struggled in high surf waters off Hawaii.

The Kaua‘i Police Department identified the victim in a Monday, Nov. 24, release as Master-at-Arms 1st Class Jeffrey Diaz, 47, of Florida, who was stationed at Hawaii’s Pacific Missile Range Facility, Barking Sands.
