For more than two decades, a trio of square concrete light poles have towered over visitors at Bellevue’s Crossroads Park with grim austerity. Today, shimmering discs of colorful glass — lemon-zest yellow and shiny amethyst and pearly peach — cascade down from its square fixture. Resembling otherworldly saucers, massive flower petals or see-through CDs, their colors change as you move around them or as the day’s sunlight shifts.
They’re part of three glass and metal public sculptures installed on the park’s existing light poles by the artist Anna Mlasowsky, who splits time between Seattle and Stockholm.
Envisioned by the artist for the city of Bellevue in 2023, the work — installed in late October — has taken on new meaning in 2025.
