WASHINGTON − Two members of the National Guard were shot on Nov. 26 near the White House in Washington, DC, according to Trump administration officials.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the shooting in a statement.
"Please join me in praying for the two National Guardsmen who were just shot moments ago in Washington D.C.," Noem said, adding that her department is working with local law enforcement to gather more information.
A suspect is in custody, DC's Metropolitan Police said.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting. Trump is at his Mar-a-Lago resort home in Palm Beach, Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday.
