Two members of the National Guard were shot near the White House in Washington, DC, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said.

WASHINGTON − A National Guard member was killed and other injured in a shooting on Nov. 26 near the White House in Washington, DC, officials said. A suspect is in custody.

The guardsman's death was confirmed by West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey. Both victims were members of the West Virginia National Guard.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the shooting in a statement, which took place just before 2:30 p.m. ET at 17th and I Street next to Farragut Square Park, about two blocks from the White House.
