STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — There was a large FDNY response at ShopRite in Great Kills on Friday afternoon, which, as Thanksgiving eve, stands as one of the busiest food-shopping days of the year.

The response took place at the location on Greaves Lane in Evergreen Plaza around 3:50 p.m.

Several fire engines were on the scene with ladders stretched to the top of the supermarket.

Dozens of firefighters with hoses stretched lined up outside the building.

What appeared to be smoke could be seen through the windows of the supermarket.

Dozens of workers could be seen gathered in the shopping center parking lot.

The ShopRite opened this past September in a 62,000-square-foot building. It stocks over 40,000 products and offer nearly 3,000 sale items each week.
