NEW PALTZ, N.Y.— Almost a third of Ulster County residents are food insecure, according to a report from the Benjamin Center at SUNY New Paltz.
But of the four regional counties, Ulster has the highest food security rate, the report said. The study included households located in Ulster, Dutchess, Orange and Sullivan counties.
Six in 10 regional households are food insecure, the report said.
“Our initial Cost of Living report in April provided an in-depth analysis of cost-of-living struggles in the region, and this new study reveals and details the 4-county area’s considerable food security challenges,” said Kathleen (kt) Tobin, a sociologist and Benjamin Center scholar, in a prepared statement
