AMHERST, Ohio (WOIO) - The Ohio Turnpike is shutting down most construction zones through Sunday as officials prepare for one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Seventy-three million people are expected to hit the roads nationwide for Thanksgiving, with 90% of holiday travelers driving to their destinations.
“We are working overtime to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible,” said Brian Newbacher of the Ohio Turnpike.
Only two work zones will remain active from Wednesday through Sunday, ensuring at least two lanes stay open in both directions across the entire turnpike.
Officials expect 800,000 vehicles to use the turnpike during Thanksgiving week, totaling nearly 50 million miles of holiday travel.
